Sometimes, words don’t do a place justice, so I will keep this brief.  Aquamarine pools, waterfalls bubbling over green moss and water shooting down from the earth like a natural fountain makes this park a truly special place.  You will see yabbies and fish swimming in the crystal clear streams, butterflies resting peacefully on the grass and the waterfalls around every corner.

The best tip would be to go during shoulder season.  July and August are super crowded and takes a long time to inch along the board walks, plus the vast amount of people takes away from the serenity of the place. Nonetheless, this magnificent national park is something out of this world.  You can take organised tours from Zagreb, or stay at a nearby town and allow a bit more time to explore the park independently.

  1. Plitvice Lakes has been sitting on my to-visit list for a while now – thanks for the tips on when to visit! Now I’m no longer teaching, I have the luxury of being able to take my holidays in the shoulder season 🙂 It looks so scenic, and I love the aquamarine colour of the water!
