As the weather warms up and the tulips start to bloom in the parks, it is the perfect time to go walking around one of the many lakes in Berlin. The last couple of weeks have been full of blue skies and sunshine. We found ourselves wandering around Weißensee, located Northeast of the city centre, easily accessible by tram or bus.

First stop, the bakery, for an afternoon German tradition of coffee and cake. Whatever cake you order, it slides down very easily!

Next, we strolled around the lake, where we could see people lazing around on the grass, rowing boats in the water, or lying in deckchairs on the sandy beach. It was a bit too cold for swimming, but in the Summer, you can definitely jump in for a dip.

Instead, we found ourselves sitting outside at Milchhäuschen Cafe, with lake views, feasting on salted fish, fried potatoes, sausages and sauerkraut, all washed down with a Weinschorle (white wine mixed with sparkling mineral water).

Heading home

With an added glow, we wandered around the rest of the lake before heading home, with full stomachs and many photos!

Have you explored any lakes in Berlin?  Which ones are your favourite?
